THE UNIT (더 유닛) – THE WITHDRAWAL AND GRATITUDE

When I wanted to write this post, I pause a moment to think what is the real definition of withdrawal. You know, when we watch K-Drama, we usually have that syndrome. I am feeling exactly the same for THE UNIT. It’s not just solely about the show but also the participants. Well, it’s all about them. Their interaction, their determination, humor, tears, laughter, friendship and dreams… This is totally different to Produce 101. I am a big fan of the show too and still fangirling over Wanna One. But the feeling I have for THE UNIT is different and I don’t know how to express it.. It’s not just like, or love.. it’s beyond that. ❤

The reason I keep on writing about this program is because I don’t want to forget the memories. I know I will cringe and wish I did not write this when I see it months or years later but I still want to do it regardless my broken English. If you are my blog’s frequent visitor, you’ll notice that I rarely (or you might not seen once) post a writing/review apart from lyrics and tracklist. I am willing to dedicate my time for this and I might do it more in the future — for whatever topic.

I thought my previous post is the final THE UNIT series from me but I just can’t put a stop to the show. In fact, it’s a new beginning to 18 of them so how to end the story? I thought maybe I would share one or two things about their progress, activities and so on — as well as our other participants who are now back to their respective groups. I am really looking forward for their future plan — my fingers are ready to welcome their albums. yosh!

So after the final episode ended, I spent the whole night lurking over the net, giffing the final moments, and discussing and sharing feeling with fellow fans. I slept at 5am that day lol within these few days, I saw many of them sharing their gratitude in social media and so I left my gratitude to them under their comment section whether they read or not. hahaha

I ought to share what they say but most of them writes an essay so I had a hard time to translate everything so at times like this, soompi is my saviour. All translations attached to the photos were translated by soompi — except for Kijoong’s where I added about 10% of my translations 🙂

“I wasn’t able to say this because I was really taken aback earlier, but I think I was able to get first thanks to the love and support of many people. Thank you so much to everyone who voted. I am so happy to have met the very great Unit B friends, and I have been thankful for all of you!! I will cherish these memories deep in my heart!! You have all worked hard. I love you!!!!” – Jun
“Everyone, thank you so much. I got seventh. My mind is out of it, and I cannot believe it…Unit Makers, everyone that believed and voted for me, I will give back as much as you have believed in me and voted for me. Please continue to give me lots of love. My friend Kyung Tak (Lee Geon), thank you so much, and you have worked hard. I have been happy for these past six months, which can be seen as a long or short amount of time, and let’s continue on the flowery road!! I really love you all..! ‘The Unit,’ thank you.” – Daewon
“Hello. This is IM’s Kijoong. There were many difficult times during ‘The Unit,’ but I think there were even more happy times. ‘The Unit’ hyungs who were by my side helping me and giving me strength, IM member hyungs who participated with me and were my support system, the Unit Makers who always supported me and voted for me, I was able to make it to the final stage and rise to the high ranking of eighth thanks to all of you. Thank you so much to the director, writers, staffs who always work hard for us. (for) giving me a lot of things when I do not know anything, encourage and helped me until I get to this place. As well to our mentors!!! Rain, Hwang Chiyeol, San E, Jo Hyun Ah, Taemin, and Hyun Ah, thanks to your mentoring I’ll be a good singer!!! In the future, I will show better sides of myself and growth that will surprise you. I will work hard so that you don’t regret your decision. Thank you so much, and I love you.” – Kijoong
“Thank you. I will give back to the love you have given me. Our Unit B who has gotten close over the past six months as we shared each of our pains and concerns, you have worked so hard. Thank you so much to the Unit Makers and BIGSTAR’s Only One. Thank you also to all the staff of ‘The Unit.’ I will become a greater Feeldog. And thank you to my mother and father for bringing me into this world. I love you. Lastly to the ‘Pull Me’ team, I love you so much.” – Feeldog

Feeldog also shared a video of team Black at the backstage before they perform Pull Me 🙂

“I finished in second place thanks to many people that voted for me, cheered me on, and supported me for the final ‘The Unit’ stage~! Thank you so much, and I will give back to the great love given to me~! And ‘The Unit’ family that I have been together with, the ‘Pull Me’ team that I concluded the program with, thank you for the wonderful memories!! You have all worked hard~!!” – Euijin
“Thank you all” – Hansol

Hansol also shares his thought in an interview

“It still doesn’t feel real. Thank you to the unit makers and fans for making me into one of the nine members.” He honestly didn’t expect to make it to the final nine, explaining, “They are all really skilled people, so I was just happy that I made it to the top 18 and didn’t think that I would be chosen as one of the final nine members. It was a day where I received so much love and it’s an honor to be a member of Unit B.” He revealed that he thought of his parents the most in that moment and thanked them. “I’m not good at expressing it, but thank you so much for taking care of me and cheering for me,”

When asked why he decided to participate in “The Unit,” his reason was simple. Ji Hansol answered, “I was desperate to be on stage, so I came on the show. During the 150 days, I was happy I was able to experience many performances.” He added that his favorite performance on the show was his nerve-wracking first evaluation stage where he performed Taemin’s “Good Bye.”

From the numerous memories he made on the show, Ji Hansol chose the time while he preparing for the “Monster” performance as the most memorable. He described the process of preparing for that performance as a “fun and heartwarming memory.” He added, “When we practiced, we practiced hard and during breaks, we talked a lot and played games. We also came in first place.”

“I actually smile and talk a lot, but I get nervous when we start filming. I’m regretful that I wasn’t able to show 100 percent of myself. One by one, I will show you everything.” – trans by soompi

“I sincerely thank everyone that supported me. I will give back. My parents, I love you.” – Marco

You’re welcome guys.. and I love you too 🙂 Technically The Unit is not ended yet! We still have a few dates to cover. Last Sunday they did a guerrilla concert at Yeongdeungpo Time Square (I might do a separate post for this) and then on the 18th KBS will air The Unit Behind Story at 11:20pm kst. On 24th Feb, we will have The Unit Special Show where the official group name for both Unit B and G will be announced. On March 3rd, the fan meeting will be held at Gocheok Sky Dome. Exciting much!!

I’m so looking forward for the day to come. In the meantime, I’ll just watch old episodes and performances to feed my withdrawal. How about you. Have you move on? 😀
